Photographers mostly use many terms that clients often do not understand, or think they understand, and later during the event comes stress because they believed they would receive something when in reality it was not what they had imagined. Or much worse, with the final result, they think that we are going to deliver something totally different from what they really contracted.
Those confusions will not be a headache for you, of course if you finish reading this post. Find out some of our terms regarding your wedding photography.
- Traditional Wedding: Traditional wedding photos are portraits where the bride and groom only want posed photos. Poses are made of the couple alone, with the family, looking at the camera, the ceremony kiss, the exchange of rings, the typical photo cutting the cake and the most important moments during the wedding.
- Spontaneous photos: spontaneous wedding photos are sudden photos that are not planned and that are mostly taken as they happen, without the couple realizing it, things that happen once, the emotions and expressions are captured more than even They imagined and relive those moments later with the photos. The bride and groom are very much in their moment and are different for each couple. This type of photos can be combined with traditional photos, it is good to have posed photos as well although they are used more for family photos. Personally, I love capturing what we call spontaneous photos because here everyone is as they are, they look more natural and the love is more evident.
- Pinterest: it is when we present a photo through a style that can be found on a website. Clients often show us images and poses that they have saved and that they would like to do. A professional photographer should always be open to receiving opinions and ideas from the client so that they feel comfortable during the process of taking such important photos.
- Romantic: These are images that are based on the couple and show them interacting with each other and being loving towards each other. They are sweet poses and make them look more natural. These poses are most used in the bride and groom session or pre-wedding session that takes place some time before the wedding. Although it is where it is most used, romantic poses can also be included in the wedding so that the bride and groom have more variety in their wedding photos.
- Fun: Fun photos are spontaneous, where the couple or bridal party acts silly and relaxes rather than the sometimes stiff feel of formal photos.
- Details: these are the photos of details such as the bouquet of flowers, rings, shoes, jewelry, the groom’s tie, the bride’s veil, etc. These types of photos are used more in Getting Ready, this name refers to when the bride and groom are getting ready. This service is usually offered by photographers as an additional part of their wedding plans. Photos of the details are also taken in the room where the wedding will be held, preferably before the guests arrive to capture the clean spaces just of the decoration and closer photos of the table and the details of each one, and finally photos of all the decoration in general.
- Formal: formal photos are generally taken after the ceremony, this is where the family and friends that the bride and groom want to participate in the photos are called, it is the typical group photo where everyone looks at the camera and smiles. The main photos are first those of the core of the couple, first of each party and then of all of them. This type of photo is somewhat similar to traditional wedding photos.
- JPEG: or JPG refers to the name of the file that the photographer will send your photos to once they have been edited. Photographers have different methods of delivering these digital photos, it can be on a USB memory, a CD or sent to your email through a shared link. In my case, my clients receive their digital photos through a link shared through Google Drive.
- Editing: This is the part where we make all the relevant adjustments to your photos before they are sent for selection purposes. In this process we are in charge of verifying whether the photos need to look lighter or darker and above all improve the color tones that make up the photo, photos with eyes closed or out of focus, leaving only the best photos. When I am doing photo sessions for my clients I always make sure to take several shots in the same pose, this way we reduce the margin of error of having to delete a photo and not having another to replace it. Eye; This process is not to deliver the final photos, these are just the first settings to send your photos so you can select the ones you like the most.
- Retouching: retouching is the second part of the editing process, after you have made the selection of the photos that you liked the most, we proceed to correct the skin of the couple and the people who appear in the selected photos, as well as the details about objects that do not look good as part of the photo composition and that can be eliminated.
- High Resolution: This term just means that the image is good for printing. If your plan does not include printed photos, you can still print them whenever you like, since we send the final photos in a resolution suitable for printing in the size that the client wants. You should always make sure that the photographer you hire sends the final photos in high resolution.
- Low resolution: it is the opposite of high resolution, it is not good for printing because the images will look pixelated and with distorted colors. Low resolution images can be used perfectly just to be shared on social networks or if you simply want to save them in digital format.
- Bridal Party Photos: These photos include the maid of honor, all the bridesmaids, groomsmen, ring bearer, flower girl, and everyone who is taking part in the bride and groom’s bridal parade. Photos are taken separately with the couple and with everyone together.
- First look or first look: it is when the bride and groom see each other for the first time, the groom has never seen his beloved dressed as a bride and the photographer must capture all the possible expressions of both. They are spontaneous images that you never know how each person will react to this event. Usually the groom turns his back and the bride walks towards him, then the groom turns around and sees her. I’ve witnessed a lot of really exciting first looks for everyone. These photos can be taken either in the pre-wedding session or on the wedding day before the ceremony.
I hope these points help you have a more understanding dialogue with your photographer and you can hire a professional carrying out all the necessary criteria to understand their offer towards your needs.
