Getting ready for your engagement session?
If you need some extra tips, check out this list I created just for you.
- Dress for the season. Think about the season as you prepare for your photo shoot. If it’s summer, make sure you’re dressed appropriately so you and your fiancé don’t get sweaty or red during the session. If it’s fall, wear warm colors to celebrate the season. Keep these things in mind so you’ll be comfortable and your photos will look their best.
- Choosing the best time for the session. Very early in the morning and in the evening before the sun sets are the best times for a session because of the amazing lighting of the “golden hour”. If you have a session at midday, there will be harsh lighting and your photos will ultimately suffer greatly.
- Always be prepared. Make a list of everything you need for your session: brush, lipstick, extra clothes, towels, water, props, etc. Put them in the car and be ready to go. Along with that, get the exact location address from your photographer on your smartphone, and schedule the address for the session. You don’t want to get lost and cause unnecessary stress. Leave with plenty of time to spare – it’s okay if you have to wait a while before you start.
- Be excited. This is also part of being prepared. If you are excited, you can’t help but rub off on your fiancé. He or she loves you and gets excited when you are excited. Your partner can’t help but get excited too. So build up the excitement and let him or her know how important this is to you and how much fun it will be.
- Relax. Do not, I repeat, do not stress about this. This is supposed to be fun. I know you’re worried about how you’ll look, if the weather will cooperate, etc., but the more you stress, the more likely you are to feel stiff or uncomfortable in front of the camera. The more relaxed you are, the better your photos will be. Do what you can to prepare for the shoot and leave the rest to me. That’s what I’m here for, so just breathe and relax. Hey, maybe this is a great excuse to give yourself that massage?
