10 tips for your wedding day in the Dominican Republic

Having participated in multiple weddings has made me witness countless moments that have given me a lot of experience in various situations that arise at the time of a wedding. This is why I would like to recommend some tips that will help you better cope with the vicissitudes that could arise on your wedding day and that can anticipate some things that could get out of control if you do not plan them in advance.

Here are my top 10 tips:

Tip #1

Create a detailed timeline for your wedding day that includes when flowers should arrive, when people should arrive, when hair and makeup will be done, etc. Includes exact times and locations. Share this timeline with everyone involved in your wedding, including your photographer.

Tip #2

Have food on hand while you prepare. Some couples have made the mistake of barely eating on their wedding day and ended up with a headache. Having healthy snacks and plenty of water on hand will make for a better day.

Tip #3

Practice walking in your wedding day shoes to ensure they are comfortable enough to stand in for your portraits and for the duration of your wedding. Pain is beauty, yes, but appearing sore in an image is not worth it.

Tip #4

Pack a “wedding day emergency” kit and bring it with you on your big day. Essentials include some clear nail polish for snags, pain relievers for headaches, any makeup you need for touch-ups, and a travel sewing kit. Band-aids, pills, tampons, and tissues are also good.

Tip #5

Have your cake and flowers arrive at the last possible moment that won’t harm the organization of the event (but will still be planned with some buffer time). Flowers wilt and cakes can melt on hot days (which are common in our country), so postponing these deliveries can ensure that you both look great for your photos, ceremony, and reception.

Tip #6

Have a “hot spot checker” person nearby who is there to help with things like tangles, smeared lipstick, or out-of-place hair. It could be someone from your bridal party or the mother of the bride, for example.

Tip #7

Whether you’re doing your own makeup or have a makeup artist come in, give it a try. This is especially important if you have sensitive skin, as an allergic reaction on your wedding day would not be good.

Tip #8

Order at least 25 additional wedding invitations than you think you will need. It’s better to have extras “just in case” and it’s often less expensive to buy in bulk than to order a few extra last minute.

Tip #9

Follow up with all your vendors a week before your wedding to make sure everything is in place and ready to go. If something is wrong (for example, the florist only has 4 bouquets listed instead of 5), this will give you enough time to fix the error.

Tip #10

Expect the unexpected. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and that’s okay. In the long run, it’s your perspective and attitude that makes for a bright and successful day. Enjoy your moment and let things flow.

The basis of everything is planning and having a contingency plan in case something unexpected happens. This way you will be able to find a solution in time to the problems that arise.
