Tips for photo shoots in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

As a photographer for more than 10 years, I have always liked to instruct my clients before our big meeting for their photo sessions that take place in Santo Domingo. This is so that when the day of your photo session arrives you can be prepared for possible eventualities that may occur and that are quite easy to prevent so that the final result is as expected and even exceeds expectations.

The tips that I detail below are based on years of experience that have led me to offer my clients a favorable experience during their photo session in the city of Santo Domingo, but these tips can be applied in any place or circumstance for a Photoshoot.

First of all, it is important to communicate with your photographer to tell him what your initial expectations are with your photos, and if you saw some ideas before to show them in a way that helps guide him so that the final result is exactly what you want.

Punctuality for appointments is of utmost importance, so it is good that you schedule yourself days in advance and calculate the time that each process will take when the day of your appointment arrives, calculating in advance the time of everything you need to be optimal ( o) the day of the photo session, that is, the time of hair, makeup, hair trimming, dressing, transportation, etc. Remember that our country has very heavy traffic and it is good that you calculate the time it will take to get to our meeting point, always trying to ensure that your arrival time is at least 15 minutes before the appointment.

It is ideal to start the photo session when everything is completely ready with clothing, hairstyle and headdress, makeup, accessories, among others. It is important to relax, not stress, this way you will look loose and calm. Take air naturally. Your photographer must take care of all the details of your photography, from the poses, to your expressions and ideas, so that everything turns out just as you planned.

It is important to understand that a little exhibitionism and exaggerated attitudes are what generate extraordinary and powerful photos. This really translates into being able to handle body and facial expressions naturally and spontaneously. Choose appropriate clothes for your photos. Accessories are the finishing touch to any outfit, used properly they can transform an ordinary outfit into a very good one.

Always keep your back and neck upright, shoulders loose and relaxed. Soften the features of your face, smile lightly and naturally, if you feel a little nervous for the day of your photo shoot, ask someone you trust to accompany you and distract you a little. We do not recommend going with many people because they can distract you from the instructions that the photographer is going to offer you.

To show off a flat abdomen, it is always recommended to contract it slightly. Avoid showing that you are making any effort to hide your “belly.”

The woman must remember to constantly touch up her makeup so that the photos do not come out with excess shine. Good makeup must be in accordance with photographic requirements since the images captured will constitute part of the memory of that day and are also unrepeatable. We must avoid overly marked shadows, bright lipsticks, greasy bases and shadows, since all of these elements in their Encounter with the flash produces unwanted glare that spoils the result of the photograph, negatively affecting the final result. The correct makeup should be light but very well done, presenting a natural, fresh and, above all, very youthful appearance.

Individuals must attend with well-ironed clothes and in optimal conditions, likewise ladies and gentlemen must take good care of their hairstyle and in the case of men it is ideal that they attend the barber days before to look their best. As well as making sure that they are wearing the accessories that you really want to be shown in the photographs.

If you are nervous about this session, we recommend practicing before with a family member, you can choose to take digital shots so that you can capture your best angles and go much safer to your photo session.

If you don’t want to show your arms in photos, avoid bringing sleeveless shirts or very low necklines to the session.

If there are family photos, try to dress the entire family in similar colors.

It is not a good idea for only one of the family members to dress differently from the rest. If you decide to wear the same outfit, it looks better for everyone to wear it.

Do not mix formal and casual clothing in the same photo.

Don’t dress all your family members in white, too much white in photos distracts and downplays people.

In a group photograph you have to be very careful with the costumes since too many colors and different styles could dull the image and cause attention to be lost on the faces, so you have to harmonize the color and style. No one person should dominate the portrait.

The people and guests who accompany them during the photos must know that the photographer is the one who will direct them at all times to achieve the best results, which is why they should not hinder the work process at any time.

And remember that we live in a tropical country, so it is good to bring towels, comfortable shoes or flip-flops for walking and a little water to cool off during the session.

I know it’s a lot of information, but I’m sure it will help you. Anyway, if you have any more questions, contact me and I will be happy to help you.

Being prepared is the best way for things to go well, so I hope that after reading these tips your photo session is just as you imagined.
