Do not think that you are the first person who has had doubts about this question, it is very common to hear it. And if you have really thought about it, this is something that is very important because Light varies a lot throughout the day.

The answer is simpler than you might imagine: the golden hour.

And now you may be wondering, but what the heck is golden hour?

Golden hour is the hour after sunrise, and 1 hour before sunset. Right now the sun is low on the horizon, and you won’t have sunlight shining down from above like midday, which you should avoid at all costs.

The golden hour is the time of day where the Light is most pleasant, soft and dramatic. This time of day will guarantee that your photos are spectacular.

And to find it I will give you a trick that I often use, you just have to Google “sunset -date-” and you will know the exact time of any day.

I have some daytime sessions available, but I prefer to shoot in the hours before sunset. Because during this time, the lighting is absolutely perfect.

The benefits

  • You will get delightful sparklers and beautiful soft light.
  • There are no soft shadows or crossed eyes from the blinding midday sun.
  • In the summer, the weather is not very hot, so you can relax a little better knowing that there is no sweat running down your face or making stains on your shirt.
  • During the Golden Hour, everything is warm and beautiful and gives off a magical feeling.

We can also get some sweet silhouette photos as the sun sets on the horizon.

Avoid midday and nearby hours

People have asked me to do their photo session during midday or close to it, thinking that having the sun brighter will help their photos look better. But the reality is that Midday Light provides one of the least desirable light effects that exist, creating unwanted shadows in the eyes and under the chin.

Also avoid the hours close to midday since the sun from an overhead position is never favorable.

What other times could be good for my outdoor session?

You already know that the golden hour is the best time of day to have those spectacular portraits, but there are circumstances that could intervene in not being able to capture the golden hour.

As a photographer, I am able to take photographs in any lighting conditions that exist, which is why I think it is important to highlight these times because sometimes people see them as an inconvenience, but as a lighting professional I see them as an opportunity. to create extraordinary moments.

  • Rainy days: it is a fact that rain can paralyze any activity, but if you ever find yourself in your session with rain, go ahead and take a few photos, the result will be extraordinary. After it has stopped raining, the colors in the environment stand out and the slightest puddle of water can create high-impact photos. Don’t limit yourself.
  • Cloudy days: These days are great for photos. And in a simple way I will explain why: the clouds work as diffusers of sunlight, projecting a soft light into the environment. Clients love a clear day, but I love a day with clouds and dramatic skies for photos.
  • At night: the best recommendation I have made to you has been during the day, you should not leave aside night photography. If after having taken advantage of the golden hour you come across a few hours of night during your session, do not miss the opportunity to have portraits with the city lights and create unique moments.

Now that you have the information on the best time to plan your session, go now and get the best photos of your life.

Remember that I am available for any type of photo session you want. Just contact me by any of these means.
