Inspired by the idea of a course I was taking called “Portrait Photography”, one day we were asked to photograph a subject. With the photographs we had to faithfully represent the work of that person, so that just by looking at them we know what he does.
I thought it would be an extremely easy task since I only had to look for a police officer and it would be extremely easy for me. But at one point I decided to go outside to get some air and look outside in search of a little inspiration, then at that same moment I ran into two very peculiar children who asked me if I wanted to clean. I accepted and one of them, shorter than the other, took the initiative and began to carry out his work very enthusiastically.
We didn’t exchange many words.
At the end of their work I paid them and left, I turned around and immediately the idea came to me: Why don’t I take my photographs of these children? His work is as worthy as that of any other professional in his area. I proceeded to run to get my camera inside and then ran all over the street looking for them. After some corners I found them and ordered them to stop, even though my heart was in my mouth.
I asked them if they would allow me to take some photos, to which they agreed, a little shy. I had to ask them a lot of questions and after a few minutes they started posing freely and giving me guides on how they wanted to be photographed. At the end, when I was satisfied with the result, they asked me to send them by mail. Sometimes they have the opportunity to use a computer and they could see them.
It breaks your heart to have to see children doing work at hours when they should be studying and learning to be better tomorrow. It is true that work dignifies man, but we should all have the opportunity to fully enjoy that initial stage of our lives. . I hope that one day that will change.
